Following a historic vote Tuesday, 12/6 by the LA City Council that calls for the end of “Corporate Personhood,” Occupy Santa Clarita will be presenting a two-part film series on December 8 and 15 from 6-9pm at Vincenzo’s Pizza, 24504 Lyons Ave., Newhall, CA 9132 featuring the prize winning documentary,THE CORPORATION.  This film examines the rise of corporate power and how this trend has been responsible for the economic, social, political and environmental crisis facing this country and the world.

“It is timely that Occupy Santa Clarita is sponsoring this film series right after Los Angeles City has called for a constitutional amendment asserting that corporations are not entitled to constitutional rights, and that spending money is not a form of free speech,” stated Carole Lutness, Occupy Santa Clarita member and chair the of SCV Fair Elections Committee which has been working on this issue since 2005.

Following the film, a panel of local experts and representatives from Move to Amend and the California Clean Money will discuss the impact of corporate power in Santa Clarita and solutions that will help rebalance our system and correct the grave problems we now face. There will be time for questions and discussion. Lutness hopes that people in Santa Clarita will be interested in learning more about this issue and will attend the film series.
