February 11th is the one-year anniversary of the day Walker and his funders launched their all out assault against everything that makes Wisconsin a great place to live, work, and learn.  It also marks the anniversary of the day the people of Wisconsin rose up in mass protest to not only “kill the bill,” but also to demand an end to the many economic and social injustices present in our society.

Over 1000 Students, TAs, PAs, RAs, Lecturers, Faculty, Staff and many others marched down state street demanding better support for our learning and teaching conditions and delivered thousands of Valentines to Walker. For many of us, it was our first time experiencing the power of collective action in defense of what we all knew was priceless: quality, affordable education and workers' rights in Wisconsin.

Location

Wisconsin State Capitol Madison, WI

The Wisconsin Department of Administration has announced a new policy that would require demonstrations inside the Capitol of four or more people to request permits of the state 72 hours in advance, and could require protest groups to reimburse the state for the cost of policing them, at a cost of $50 per officer per hour.

December 16, 2011 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm

New Capitol rules from the Dept. of Administration will require people get a permit for anything with 4 or more people attending inside the Capitol, 100 outside. They also have to apply 72 hours in advance and pay for police presence.

This is directed at the Solidarity Singalong and is a violation and other future 1st Amendment expressions! They will start enforcing the rules on Dec. 16th, so we need a large number of people to attend.

The Singalong will be outside on Friday the 16th, and inside Monday the 19th. Monday will be the test for the inside rules.

Now, our defense continues as Representative Stephen Nass (R-Whitewater) has invited the CEO to the Capitol for a closed hearing to waste time they should be spending working on job creation or lowering the cost of higher education scrutinizing our legal admissions practices at UW-Madison.

Join Senator Bernie Sanders for a Town Meeting to discuss the issue of corporations being afforded the status as "persons" under the constitution.

What can be done to reverse the implications of "Corporate Personhood," including the recent, disastrous Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. How can we establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are entitled to constitutional rights.
